Updates! Finally!

Wow. Okay, so that “post something I’ve drawn every day” thing didn’t really work out. I did sketch something almost every day, but I couldn’t bring myself to post most of it. The good news, however, is that I have managed to get back into the swing of producing artwork a bit. Right now I’m really having a lot of fun with colored pencils on black paper again. The three newest drawings (including the one in the thumbnail) are in the “Traditional Art” gallery.

I’ve also updated my Zazzle Store, and have been experimenting with shrink films to make things such as plastic key chains and charms that I can put up for sale on Etsy and such places.

Finally, in light of the recent tragedies in Japan, I will soon be running an eBay auction for another charity auction commission. I’m just working out the details, as I wasn’t smart enough to save the auction description/details from the last charity commission auction I did. Details will be posted as soon as I get it together. I may auction off a few prints for charity as well.

Breaking Creative Blocks

So, you may have noticed the complete lack of new artwork in a while. It’s the usual story of just feeling blocked creatively. A lot of this was due to my job which had become so stressful, exhausting, and the schedule so erratic that it left no time nor energy for my creative pursuits. At the end of July, I started a new job which is much less stressful, has a much more regular and stable schedule, and which I am generally much happier with, but there has still been some adjustment to be made physically and mentally, so I’ve given myself a little leeway on that.

But I think I’ve given myself all of the leeway I can and still have respect for myself. It’s been over three months since I’ve done any artwork that was more than just a very simple sketch. I’ve had ideas but have lacked the concentration and discipline to force them down onto paper.

So, my plan is to produce and post something each day. It doesn’t necessarily need to be a finished piece of artwork but at least something… competent. Posting something each day has two purposes. The first is that it will hopefully motivate me to make sure I produce something each day, as I’m hoping I can count on my friends and other watchers to prod me if I start to slack off and miss days. I need some amount of structure to remain productive. The other reason is that if I am going to post it, I will put effort into it. If this were a simple “something in my sketchbook each day” but am not showing it to anyone, there’s less motivation for me to refine anything.

At this point, it won’t matter what the daily artwork is. It can be a sketch, a finished drawing, sculpture, really anything as long as I made it. It might be completely original ideas, life-drawings, landscapes, or random fan art.

I haven’t yet decided whether I’ll post the dailies on just my deviantArt gallery, or also on other social media yet. We’ll see.

I’d better get to work on something.
